Privacy
What forabit holds about you, why, and who else sees it. Written in plain terms, and accurate to what the app actually does.
What we collect
- Your account
- Name, email address, and a password we store scrambled rather than as text. Optionally a short bio and a suburb. We don't ask for a phone number.
- Where you are
- The suburb you type, or one worked out from your device if you tap “use my location”. Approximate only — we never hold a street address.
- What you list
- The description, price and photos of anything you hire out.
- Your hires
- Dates, prices, the messages between you and the other person, and any reviews either of you leave.
- Whether your ID checked out
- Before your first hire, Stripe checks a document and a selfie. Stripe holds them, not forabit — we're told only whether it passed.
- Payments
- Handled entirely by Stripe. forabit never sees or stores card numbers or bank details.
- Getting help
- Whatever you write on the help page, and the email address you give us to reply to.
- Searches that found nothing
- If you search for something nobody has listed, we record the words so we know what to go and find. It's linked to your account if you're signed in.
What we use it for
Running the marketplace: showing you things near you, connecting you with the other person, taking payment, and answering you when you get in touch. Nothing else.
Who else sees it
- Other people using forabit — your name, suburb, bio, reviews and how many hires you've completed. Your email address is never shown, and we don't hold a phone number at all — arranging a handover happens in the app, where both of you have a record of what was agreed.
- Stripe — to take payment and pay owners.
- Zoho — our mailbox, which receives anything you send us.
- Nobody else. We don't sell anything to anyone.
Checking who you are
Before your first hire you verify your ID once: you photograph a government document and your own face, and Stripe compares them.
- forabit never sees either photo. They go to Stripe. All forabit is told is whether the check passed.
- Nobody you hire from sees anything — only that your ID has been verified, shown as a badge.
- Once, not every hire. You never do it again.
forabit briefly held driver licences itself and stopped: holding identity documents is discouraged in New South Wales, and there is no good reason to keep something Stripe can check without us ever seeing it.

Your choices
You can see and change your details in settings, and close your account there too.
Closing removes your name, email and location, and takes your listings down. Hires you've completed, and reviews, stay — they belong to the other person as much as to you — but your name comes off them. Payment records are kept for as long as the law requires.
You can ask us what we hold about you. If you're unhappy with how we've handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
