forabit

How forabit works

Most of what we own sits still. A power drill gets used for minutes in its whole life; a roof box goes out twice a year. This is a marketplace for the gap in between — you hire out what you already have, and borrow what you'd only use once.

If you're hiring something

  1. 1

    Find it near you

Search by what you need and when you need it. Anything already booked for those dates is filtered out before you see it.

  2. 2

    Request the dates

Send a request with a note. Nothing is charged yet — the owner has to accept first.

  3. 3

    Pay to confirm

Once they accept, you pay the hire price. A refundable deposit is held on your card, not taken.

  4. 4

    Collect and use it

Arrange handover in the messages. Either of you confirms collection in the app.

  5. 5

Return it, get the deposit back

Mark it returned. When the owner confirms it's fine, the deposit is released immediately.

If you're hiring something out

  1. 1

    List it in two minutes

Photos, a price per day, and where you are. Nothing to pay to put it up or leave it up.

  2. 2

    Approve who you want

You see the renter's profile, reviews and completed hires before deciding. Decline anyone, no explanation needed.

  3. 3

    Set your own guardrails

Minimum and maximum hire length, a deposit that suits the item's value, and blocked dates when you need it yourself.

  4. 4

    Get paid after each hire

Paid out once the hire completes, in full — the price you set is what reaches you. Nothing to invoice, nothing to chase.
